Course schedule

The Rescue Diver course is run over a 3 day weekend. Diving the Goat Island Marine Reserve and Outer Gulf Islands.

The knowledge of how to rescue both yourself and another diver is imperative for your confidence as a diver.

In the classroom your Instructor will be expanding on your pre course studies. Subjects include Self Rescue, Stress management, First Aid Equipment & procedures, Managing an Emergency, Equipment problems, Recognizing rescue situations, Swimming & non swimming assists, Panicked diver response, Rescuing an unconscious diver, In-water respiration, First aid procedures for pressure related injuries, Exits/egresses, Equipment removal and Dive accident scenarios.

From the classroom we move to confined water where you are trained with the basics of in-water self and buddy rescue techniques.

Day 2 consists of refining the techniques you have learned from day 1, then practicing them with different rescue scenarios, this includes how to plan a search for a missing diver, how to surface an unresponsive diver, how to strip a diver of his equipment while providing him with rescue breaths and how to exit the water with an unconsciousness diver.

On Day 3 we venture out to the Outer Gulf Islands onboard Apollo. As a team you will refine the techniques learnt from day 1 and day2 and complete challenging rescue scenarios, critiqued by your Instructor.
