A guided boat dive is the perfect next step for certified divers wanting to experience more of Goat Island Marine Reserve.
Boat access allows us to reach dive sites beyond the main shore area, where rocky reef, kelp forests, channels, drop-offs and marine life create a more adventurous scuba experience. Your guide will choose the best available site for the day based on wind, swell, visibility, tide and diver experience.
It’s a brilliant option for divers who are confident in the water and ready to see a different side of Goat Island.
Goat Island boat dive sites
Boat dive sites are selected on the day to suit the conditions and diver experience. Depending on weather, swell, visibility and tides, your guide may choose a site with reef systems, channels, kelp, sandy edges or deeper underwater features.
Because conditions can change quickly, the final dive site is always chosen with safety and enjoyment in mind.

If you would prefer an easier-access dive, our Guided Shore Scuba Dive is a great option. You’ll still explore Goat Island Marine Reserve with a local guide, but without heading out by boat.

The dive takes place within Goat Island Marine Reserve, near Leigh, north of Auckland. The exact site is chosen on the day based on conditions.
Do I need boat diving experience?
Boat diving experience is helpful, but not always essential. You should be comfortable in the water, confident with your scuba skills and able to follow guide instructions.
Is gear included?
Gear may be hired if needed. You can bring your own scuba equipment, hire selected items, or choose full gear hire.
What marine life might I see?
You may see snapper, reef fish, kelp forests, eagle rays, stingrays, nudibranchs, crayfish and other marine reserve life.
What happens if conditions are not suitable?
All boat dives are weather and sea-condition dependent. The team will assess wind, swell, visibility and safety before confirming the dive.
