Course Overview

Do you dream of exploring the ultimate depths of the recreational diving world?

Are you drawn to the deepest reefs and wrecks — or simply want to push your training further?

Many divers use boats to reach dive sites, but few receive proper training in the safety procedures and etiquette required for boat diving. The SSI Deep & Boat Diving Program combines both specialities into one comprehensive two-day adventure — building your confidence in deep environments and enhancing your skills onboard.

What You’ll Learn

The program includes theory, boat operations, and four open-water dives using our dedicated RIB Ocean Tales.

You’ll cover:

Boat Diving Skills: boat types, safety briefings, entry/exit techniques, and onboard protocols
Deep Diving Techniques: gas management, dive planning, non-decompression limits, and backup systems
Risk Awareness: recognising depth-related hazards and mitigating them safely
Practical Application: launching a DSMB and managing buoyancy in deeper environments

In-Water Sessions

Dive 1 – Orientation Dive:
Refresh buoyancy control, practise DSMB launch, and review safety procedures.

Dive 2 – 18–24 m Dive:
Focus on deep-dive planning, control, and group communication.

Dive 3 – 24–30 m Dive:
Build on confidence and awareness at greater depth.

Dive 4 – 30–40 m Dive:
Execute your final deep-dive plan, demonstrating full control and navigation.

Please note: If your instructor determines that buoyancy or comfort levels are insufficient for safe deep diving, you will not continue to deeper dives — safety always comes first.

By the End of the Course

You’ll be able to:

Safely plan and conduct dives to 40 m
Execute dives from a variety of boats
Apply proper gas management, safety, and redundancy procedures

You’ll gain the confidence and knowledge to explore the deeper parts of the ocean and become an advanced recreational diver. These skills will enhance every dive you make — even in shallow water.

We highly recommend investing in key safety gear such as a DSMB and personal dive computer. Students receive a 20% discount on equipment purchased through us.

Minimum age 15 years
Comprehensive Training: We are committed to providing you with all the necessary information and training to ensure you complete the course safely and to a high standard.
Qualified Professionals: Our scuba instructors are carefully selected for their professionalism and expertise in teaching scuba diving.
Weather-Related Rescheduling: In the event of unfavourable weather conditions that hinder the completion of your course, we offer the option to reschedule based on our course schedule and availability.
Your Commitment to Us:
Medical Statement: Please carefully review the medical statement. If you answer 'YES' to any of the questions, we require your doctor's consent affirming your fitness to dive. We cannot provide dive training without this consent. This check must be completed before enrolling in the course, as your deposit covers your Online Theory and certification fees and is non-refundable.
Deposit Validity: Your deposit remains valid until the 1st of May for the respective season you've booked.
Re-booking Fee: If you need to reschedule your course with less than one week's notice, a NZ$200 re-booking charge will apply.
Course Non-Completion: In cases where a student cannot complete the course, the course cost is non-refundable, and a $200 re-booking charge will be incurred for enrolling in another course. If additional sessions are necessary for course completion, these extra sessions will be subject to additional fees based on the nature and extent of the additional training required.
Safety Guidelines: For your safety during training, the excessive consumption of alcohol and/or drugs is strictly prohibited. Timely arrival at the designated course times is mandatory.
