Course Overview
No matter how many dives you’ve done, how deep you’ve been, or what wrecks and reefs you’ve explored — nothing compares to diving at night!

When the sun goes down, the underwater world transforms. Predators emerge, small creatures crawl from crevices, and your senses heighten as you navigate the dark with only your torchlight to guide you. Even familiar dive sites feel completely new.

In limited visibility, your buoyancy, navigation, and awareness are tested like never before. Many divers view limited visibility as a challenge, but this course shows you the true adventure of exploring murky waters and discovering hidden life in the dark.
What You’ll Learn

The SSI Night & Limited Visibility Course runs over one evening and includes:
-
A theory session covering key safety and planning considerations
-
Two in-water dives — one limited visibility and one full night dive

In class, we’ll cover:
-
Dive planning and safety procedures for dark environments
-
Equipment setup, including torches and signalling tools
-
Entry and exit techniques for limited visibility
-
Communication, buddy awareness, and navigation strategies
In-Water Sessions

During your two ocean dives, you’ll build confidence and skill as the light fades:

-
Start with a dusk dive to adapt to reduced visibility
-
Progress to a full night dive, using your torch and compass
-
Experience bioluminescent plankton in blackout scenarios
-
Practice lost buddy procedures and underwater communication
-
Strengthen your buoyancy and navigation in challenging conditions

These dives are designed to be both adventurous and safe, helping you stay calm and in control while exploring the nocturnal marine world.
By the End of the Course

You’ll have:
-
Gained the confidence to dive in dark or limited visibility water
-
Learned to plan and execute safe night dives
-
Expanded your skills as a diver beyond daylight diving

You’ll also understand the value of specialised night-diving equipment, like a high-quality torch, to enhance safety and enjoyment.

After this course, you’ll see the ocean in a completely new light — quite literally!
