Course Overview
Do you want to be able to glide through the water effortlessly so you can focus more on enjoying the marine life?
Do you want to reduce your breathing rate so that you can lengthen your dives and stay longer?
Do you want to be able to get right up close to the macro life without disturbing the bottom, for that perfect photo?

The answer is simple — SSI Perfect Buoyancy!

Buoyancy is the basis of all diving. Being able to control your buoyancy effectively is absolutely critical if you want to continue developing your diving skills.

This course is ideal for newly certified divers looking to take their skills to the next level — and for more experienced divers who enjoy photography or want to refine their skills to become even better divers.
What You’ll Learn

The SSI Perfect Buoyancy Program runs over one day and includes:
-
A theory session covering the science and techniques of buoyancy
-
Two in-water training sessions in the ocean

In class, we’ll discuss:
-
The different factors that impact your buoyancy
-
How to select, use and maintain your dive equipment
-
The concepts behind buoyancy, including Archimedes’ Principle and Boyle’s Law
-
The environmental importance of buoyancy
In-Water Sessions

During our two ocean sessions, we’ll build on your basic buoyancy skills from the Open Water Program and introduce new concepts such as:

-
Adjusting and redistributing weight to fine-tune your trim
-
Trying different finning techniques — back finning, frog kicking, and turning
-
Exploring a variety of diving positions, including sideways and upside down

We’ll also include some fun challenges like balancing weights and swimming through hoops — keeping the sessions educational and enjoyable!
By the End of the Course

You’ll have:
-
A deeper understanding of how buoyancy works
-
The ability to fine-tune your diving position
-
Greater comfort and confidence in the water

Every future dive will be more enjoyable after this training! Remember — buoyancy is a journey over time, not a skill mastered overnight. The more you practice, the better you’ll get.

This is also the perfect time to consider investing in your own well-fitted, high-quality buoyancy equipment. Having gear you know and trust will make a huge difference to your experience and set you apart from other divers.
