The SSI Science of Diving Course is designed for divers who want to go beyond the basics and gain a deep understanding of diving theory. It’s a fascinating full-day academic program that explores the physics, physiology, and environmental science that make diving possible.

What You’ll Learn

This knowledge-based program runs over one day and covers five core academic sessions:

Diving Physics — how pressure, volume, and gases affect the dive environment
Diving Physiology — how our bodies respond to pressure and gases
Decompression Theory — how nitrogen loading works and how DCS can occur
Dive Equipment — how your gear functions and how to maintain it safely
Aquatic Environment — the underwater world and environmental factors affecting your dives

There’s no in-water component, so we take regular breaks and practical workshops to make the learning interactive and engaging.

Comprehensive Training: We are committed to providing you with all the necessary information and training to ensure you complete the course safely and to a high standard.
Qualified Professionals: Our scuba instructors are carefully selected for their professionalism and expertise in teaching scuba diving.
Weather-Related Rescheduling: In the event of unfavourable weather conditions that hinder the completion of your course, we offer the option to reschedule based on our course schedule and availability.
Your Commitment to Us:
Medical Statement: Please carefully review the medical statement. If you answer 'YES' to any of the questions, we require your doctor's consent affirming your fitness to dive. We cannot provide dive training without this consent. This check must be completed before enrolling in the course, as your deposit covers your Online Theory and certification fees and is non-refundable.
Deposit Validity: Your deposit remains valid until the 1st of May for the respective season you've booked.
Re-booking Fee: If you need to reschedule your course with less than one week's notice, a NZ$200 re-booking charge will apply.
Course Non-Completion: In cases where a student cannot complete the course, the course cost is non-refundable, and a $200 re-booking charge will be incurred for enrolling in another course. If additional sessions are necessary for course completion, these extra sessions will be subject to additional fees based on the nature and extent of the additional training required.
Safety Guidelines: For your safety during training, the excessive consumption of alcohol and/or drugs is strictly prohibited. Timely arrival at the designated course times is mandatory.
Equipment Purchase Consideration: We strongly recommend seeking guidance from our instructors before purchasing your equipment to prevent costly disappointments.
